Deze week wordt op het jaarlijkse Noorderzon festival in Groningen een duurzaam retour drinkbeker-concept gelanceerd. Eenmalige, bioplastic (PLA) drinkbekers op basis van maïs worden ingezameld en gerecycled tot drankenmuntjes voor de editie van volgend jaar, aldus biotech bedrijf Bio Futura.

Bio Futura gaat in samenwerking met diverse partners - waaronder NatureWorks en Huhtamaki - gedurende elf festival-dagen zoveel mogelijk van de 500.000 bekers inzamelen en recyclen. Bezoekers worden aangespoord hierbij te helpen. Wie 50 bekers inlevert, krijgt een consumptiemunt. De bekers worden opgespaard, vervoerd naar de recyclingfabriek in België en krijgen vervolgens een nieuw leven als consumptiemunt voor het Noorderzon festival 2017.

This week, at the annual Noorderzon festival in Groningen, the Netherlands, a sustainable return drinking cup concept is launched. One-time bioplastic (PLA) drinking cups based on maize are collected and recycled to drink coins for next year’s edition, thus Dutch biotech company Bio Futura.

In cooperation with various partners – including NatureWorks and Huhtamaki - Bio Futura is going to collect and recycle as many of the 500.000 cups as possible during the 11 festival days. Visitors are urged to help. Who hands in 50 cups, gets a consumption coin. The cups are saved up, transported to the recycling plant in Belgium and then they get a new life as consumption coin for the Noorderzon festival in 2017.
